Nothing is more
important for your
baby than safe, healthy food. All children deserve the best possible
nourishment and to be protected from harmful elements that may damage
them. From conception until 1 year of age children are at their most
vulnerable in ways that older children and adults are not. Babies and
young children are at a greater risk because of the immaturity of their
organs and body systems make them more vulnerable to toxins. Children
also receive higher exposure to pesticides from the limited types of
food that they eat. Organic foods are grown without artificial
pesticides. Unnecessary farming and processing chemicals are for the
next generation. Whatever is taken from the soil must be returned and
its health must be looked after.
Difference between conventional and organic farming:
|
Conventional
Farming
|
Organic
Farming
|
| Apply
chemical fertilizers to promote plant growth |
Apply
natural fertilizers such as manure or compost to feed soil and plants |
| Spray
insecticide to reduce pests and disease |
Use
beneficial insects and birds, mating disruption or traps to reduce
pests and disease. |
| Use
chemical herbicides to manage weeds |
Rotate
crops, till, hand weed or mulch to manage weeds. |
| Give
animals antibiotics, growth hormones and medications to prevent disease
and spur growth |
Give
animal s organic feed and allow them access to the outdoors. Use
preventative measures such as rotational grazing, a balanced diet and
clean housing to minimize disease. |
Healthy
soil produces healthy plants, which taste better. A ripe organic tomato
picked off the vine will naturally taste better than the one picked
prematurely and “ripened” with chemicals in a
warehouse or on a truck. Organic produce can have on intensity of
flavour that conventional vegetables lack. This is because conventional
crops are often grown in nitrogen-based fertilizer, which causes fruits
and vegetables to absorb more water which dilutes flavour. Feeding
babies organic food will help to build them a strong immune system and
make children more resistant to disease. Organic food not only offers
your child the very best start in life , it also offers a better future
for the world in which your child will grow. |
